Meeting Olivia - Part 1

Friday, 12 August 2011, started at 2am as some of us leaped and others were dragged out of bed to make our way to the airport. We watched the sunrise from the air. The Creator’s handiwork.  A vast horizon of tangerine that signalled a new day. A new chapter.

My heart fluttered as we stepped off the plane. We were here. She was here! I couldn’t wait.

Finally it was 9:30 and we were in the car on our way to meet our new baby girl. As we arrived at the orphanage we were welcomed by the warm friendly face of Sister Joan of Arc. We grinned at each other, smiles saying more than words. Without much delay she led us to the baby room. I trembled as I followed her.  A million thoughts swirling through my mind, prayers offered up.  Little words of encouragement came tumbling out directed at Amelie who sat overwhelmed on my hip.

We walked in to the nursery and were greeted by the sight and noise of about 10 babies. Which one was Olivia? Sister pointed her out of a group of babies lying on the floor. As she lifted her up all I could see was the back of a small round head. Time slowed to a standstill as my heart beat wildly in my chest.  She turned her towards us and I was looking into the face of a beautiful baby girl.

I loved her instantly. I had been praying and waiting for this moment. She was my daughter.

Praise the LORD!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty heavens!
Praise Him for His mighty deeds;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD!
Praise the
LORD!
